# How long do I have to wait before applying for a hardship license?

Wait periods vary by offense. For a first offense or first refusal, the court must grant a conditional hardship license on request after a finding of need and proof of interlock installation (§ 31-27-2.8(b)(7)), but for an alcohol-related conviction the judge may first impose up to 90 days of loss of license (§ 31-27-2.8(c)). The exact timing depends on the sentencing judge or Traffic Tribunal magistrate.
